I was raised with
Beagles and Bird Dogs. My first bird dog was a trained English
Pointer. I was 10 years old with fields and woods full of quail
to hunt and mostly educate. Bessie was particularly tolerant of
my mistakes and instilled a love for quail hunting that will be
a part of me forever.
My wife, Paula,
and I graduated from Purdue in 1974, she in the medical field
and myself in Agricultural Education. We left the great
pheasant hunting of west central Indiana and moved to the Ft.
Wayne area to pursue our careers. Here in Northeastern Indiana
we have an abundance of waterfowl hunting and some decent
pheasant hunting.
Naturally,
striving to build a good hunting partner has led us to training
groups and hunt tests. Fortunately, I participated in a seminar
with Danny Farmer and Judy Aycox several years ago that has set
the focus for our training. Today there are so many good video
tapes that supplement quality training groups that our training
continues to improve.
With 30 years of
high school teaching behind me I admit I’m looking to retirement
and a kennel full of new pupils. We’ve expanded our facilities
and now have the resources to offer the kind of training owners
are entitled to expect. In the meantime we will accept a
limited number of retrievers and bird dogs for our training
program.
